「waste（無駄）」という名詞もあれば、「waste（無駄にする）」という動詞もあります。
名詞の「waste」は「It's a waste of ~」という使い方です。たとえば

（時間の無駄だ）
It's a waste of power.
（電気の無駄使い）
動詞の場合は「waste ~」と無駄にするものをそのまま続けます。
たとえば
I don't want to waste food.
（食べ物を無駄にしたくない）
