「the new year」は「新年」という意味です。「New Year（お正月）」と「New Year’s（大晦日）」と似ていますが使い分けましょう。「see in the new year」を「新年を迎える」という決まった言い方です。たとえば
「Let’s see in the new year at a shrine.（神社で新年を迎えよう）」
「Let’s see in the new year with champagne.（シャンパン飲んで新年を迎えよう）」など。
