彼と久しぶりに会った。

I met him for the first time in ages.

「for the first time」は「初めて」という意味の英語ですが、

「for the first time」に「in a long time（長い間で）」を付ければ

「長い間で初めて」＝「久しぶりに」という表現になります。

「in a long time」以外に、

・「in ages（すごく長い間で）」又は

・「in a while（やや長い間で）」もあります。

たとえば

I cooked for the first time in a long time.
（久しぶりに料理した）

I went to Osaka for the first time in ages.
（超久しぶりに大阪に行った）

We went out for the first time in a while.
（ちょっと久しぶりに遊びに行った）

ちょっと長い表現になりますけど、英語ではこう言います。書くと長いですが「for the first time」の部分はすごく早口で言います。

「in a long time」より「in ages」の方が少し短いし、英語圏の人は大げさに言うのが大好きだから「in ages」の方が圧倒的に使われます。

そして、

for the first time in 2 years
（2年ぶりに）

for the first time in 6 months
（半年ぶりに）

などと、

より具体的に言うこともできます。

たとえば

We met for the first time in 2 years.
（２年ぶりに会った）

I went to the movies for the first time in 6 months.
（半年ぶりに映画館に行った）
