「selective memory」を直訳すると「選択記憶・選択的記憶」ですが、「自分にとって都合のいいことだけ覚えている」ことを言います。そして「have a selective memory」という使い方ですね。
たとえば
・He has a selective memory. He only remembers what I promised to do for him and doesn’t remember what he promised to do for me.
(彼は都合のいいことだけ覚えているんだよね。私が約束したことは覚えているけど、自分の約束は覚えてない)
・She has a selective memory. She remembers the bad things I say to her but doesn’t remember the bad things she says to me.
(彼女は都合のいいことだけ覚えているんだよね。僕のひどい発言はいつまでも覚えているけど、自分のひどい発言は覚えてない)
など。
他にも「have selective hearing(都合のいいことだけ聞こえる)」という表現もあります。「memory」だと「a」はありますが、「hearing」だと「a」はないですね。
